This marks the second DSO recording under Music Director Jaap van Zweden’s baton. The album was recorded live at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in January and May of 2009, during van Zweden’s first season as music director of the DSO. Van Zweden brought the thrill of discovery to the well-known works, probing each composition for nuance, excitement and interpretive layers. Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony is noble and compelling, one of the most popular works in the symphonic repertoire. His Capriccio italien represents a lighter world: festive, free-spirited, ready to celebrate.
