The resident chorale of Walt Disney Hall in Los Angeles, recognised as one of the world’s premier choruses, pays tribute to the late mystic minimalist, composer of the best-selling Symphony of Sorrowful Songs.
Gorecki died on 12 November 2010, and this recording was driven by an urgent interest in preserving and appreciating his choral works.
Grant Gershon programmed Górecki’s Miserere during his very first season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Master chorale. The follow-up to their debut Decca Classics album of music by Nico Muhly, Miserere showcases the extraordinary emotional power of the full 110-voice Master Chorale singing unaccompanied.
Featured on this release are the first major label recordings of both Five Marian Songs and Lobgesang.

Previous recordings have managed to do this...but rarely have they exuded such physical warmth and beauty as in this performance
The Los Angeles Master Chorale is surely ideally suited to Gorecki's music. It has sufficient numbers and a depth of sound that make the massive Miserere its natural territory...Highly recommended.
