You can learn a lot about Haydn from biographies, but the advantage of Grabsky's detailed and comprehensive approach if that you can see the places where he lived and worked...You can also hear samples of his work in all genres...It's an ideal introduction to one of the greatest composers of his time.

As with the earlier films there are no phoney reconstructions and dramatisations, just a lucid chronological account of a life using contemporary prints and new film of the places where he worked; some beautiful music by a variety of performers; informative, unpretentious contributions from musicians, critics and historians; and a commentary nicely spoken by Juliet Stevenson.
