This is the 6th instalment of Haenssler’s critically acclaimed survey of Rihm’s orchestral music. Wolfgang Rihm celebrates his 60th birthday this year and this release is of two very melodic concertos. The works feature the phenomenally talented siblings Jörg and Carolin Widmann.

[Uber die Linie II ] must be one of the most substantial, an exacting test of any clarinettist's control and stamina. The soloist plays almost continuously throughout the 37-minute work that the orchestra sometimes supports and accompanies, sometimes contradicts. The music is full of allusions to past styles, and its effect is fragile and haunting.
