About

Walter Arlen was born in Vienna, but at the age of 18 became a refugee in Chicago.

He had composition lessons there and then studied in Los Angeles and became the music critic of the Los Angeles Times. After 30 years he began composing again and continued until the year 2000 when he became blind. His songs are performed by the American soprano Rebecca Nelson and the German baritone Christian Immler, who trained at the Guildhall.
