One-eyed and pugnacious, Oswald von W roamed Europe in the early 15th century, loving, brawling, adapting and singing songs that after six centuries still leap out to bite us. Augsburg's singing instrumentalists deliver these (mostly secular) treasures with forthright vigour. The booklet's song texts aren't translated, but Oswald's texts always make their own music. The recording is from the late 1980s, but you'd never know.
