The compositions by Helmut Lachenmann presented on this recording cover a period of six years. Gran Torso belongs to those works whose starting point, as Lachenmann writes, is not sound but rather “the mechanical and energetic conditions which determine the production of sound and thence derive structural and formal hierarchies”. On the other hand Salut für Caudwell combines the distinctive sound of the guitar with new playing techniques.
