Pierre Bartholomée (1937), like Hans Zender, has often had to forego his dreams as a composer. And yet, within an active conducting career, he has managed to put aside time that has allowed his own musical output togrow, almost imperceptibly, from year to year. Starting in the sixties in the wake of Henri Pousseur, and culminating, at this beginning of the 21st century, in great premieres that are eagerly awaited (Oedipe sur la route was premiered in the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in 2002), these works, among them Fin de série, exemplify Bartholomée's style with its ostinatos, repetitions and constructive variety, a skein of captivating clarity, woven from a highly individual harmonic thread. The finest Belgian performers have been brought together for this exploration of sound, the enchantment of which increases each time it is heard: Lucienne Van Deyck, Pascal Sigrist, the Trio Médicis and others communicate their vision of a full and varied musical world in all its detail, nourished by long years of true complicity.
