Guido Santórsola wrote symphonic and chamber music, but has received most recognition for his works for guitar. Fleeing with the family to San Paolo, Brazil in 1909, Santórsola's musical education, was based on strict European academicism. His music is divided into two groups, tonal and serial. Santórsola wrote tonal music until 1959, and from 1960 began to combine series of 12 pitches with his own personal criteria. In common with many other Latino American maestros of the time, two streams are evident in his tonal output: one influenced by popular folk tradition, the other includes pure music. On this recording, the dodecaphonic Santórsola is represented by two extremely commited works: the Sonata No. 2 and the Concerto a cinque.
