From Algo for solo guitar (1977) to Poll for 13 performers (1998) the pieces here are fascinating testimony of the particular importance that chamber music assumed in the composer Franco Donatoni's last decades of activity. None of the pieces which we hear on this CD belongs to the 'self-denying tendency' which Donatoni stated that he overcame in 1976.The great flowering of chamber music of which these pieces on this CD form a part, was born of masterly and unfailing techniques of elaboration, manipulation and transformation of the material. First recordings.
