The Dufay Collective need no introduction. Their exploration of medieval dance music from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries encompasses material from Italy, England and France played on a myriad of instruments (vielle, pipe and tabor, bagpipe for example) as well as on modern Middle Eastern ones (dabouka, bendir). They are keen to recognize the dances’ indebtedness to Arabic music, particularly in their interpretation of the Italian pieces.
