No one is more adept at delivering them cleanly and in tempo than O'Dette. It's in the suppleness of his phrasing, clarity of his contrapuntal lines and attention to the functional purpose of every note, that he's pre-eminent – and has the edge over Lindberg. This disc has all the virtues of its predecessors, and though it's doubtful that the Earl of Essex would have been happy to dance his galliard at O'Dette's pace, you can share the sentiment of its last track – you'll be loath to leave it.
