Together with the brass section of the Berlin Philharmonic and the American conductor André Thomas, the Radio Choir of Berlin presents Christmas music from various eras and cultures which will prove to be quite a surprise because not all of these works are familiar to us with the sound we generally associate with Christmas. The journey of discovery begins with the medieval processional anthem "Personent hodie" and leads through the late Italian renaissance into the twentieth century, where the spectrum ranges from Francis Poulenc, who characteristically linked the secular with the religious, to Negro spirituals. This surround-sound recording succeeds in recreating the momentous acoustics of this live concert given in Berlin Cathedral and is therefore a unique listening experience.
