You could argue that his speeds for the Fourth are on the fast side...though, taken as a whole, the performance's hurtling momentum and heightened sense of drama just sweep you away...The Capriccio Italien, meanwhile, is all suave elegance and flamboyant wit, far removed from conventional views of the piece as being simply a tunefully entertaining warhorse. The playing is wonderful in both cases.
