Roman Kofman was born in Kiev, Ukraine and graduated from the Kyiv State Music Conservatory (now it is the P.Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine) with a degree in violin in 1969 and degree in conducting in 1971.

Roman Kofman has focused his career on conducting and has established himself as one of the most renowned and versatile conductors in the former Soviet Union.

He was the Principal Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra of Donetsk Philharmonic, the Seoul Symphony Orchestra (South Korea), the Symphony Orchestra of the Philharmonia Pomorska (Poland). Since 1990 he has been the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra. Since July 2003 he has nominated as the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of “Beethovenhalle Orchestra Bonn” and the Principal Conductor of Bonn’ Opera Theater.

During his long and distinguished career Roman Kofman has repeatedly been invited to conduct major orchestras, among which Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra and St.Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bolshoi Opera Theater Symphony Orchestra, Munchen Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Philharmonique du Radio France, the National Symphony Orchestra of Belgium, the Liverpool Royal Philharmonic and others.

Roman Kofman conducted in the USA, France, England, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Mexico, Canada, South Africa, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Israel, Costa Rica, etc.

Roman Kofman is a renowned teacher, writer and composer. He is the Professor of conducting at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine; the author of well known book “Education of Conductors. Psychological Elements” and some poetry and prose books.
