Swedish contralto Anna Larsson was born in 1966 and trained in Stockholm, making her professional debut in 1995. Oratorio and concert work dominates her career, and she is particularly associated with Mahler: she came to international prominence after singing the Second Symphony with Claudio Abbado and the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1997, and has recorded the work with Abbado and Zinman. Her discography also includes recordings of Symphony No. 3 with Ádám Fischer, Valery Gergiev, Lorin Maazel, Abbado and Esa-Pekka Salonen, Das Lied von der Erde with Fischer, Das klagende Lied with Pierre Boulez, Erda in Siegfried with Sir Mark Elder and the Hallé and Marek Janowski and the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Gurrelieder with Edward Gardner, Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody with the Swedish Radio Choir, and Erda in Christian Thielemann’s complete Ring Cycle on Deutsche Grammophon.
