Vivaldi from Lucie Horsch

Vivaldi from Lucie HorschA historical first for Decca Classics, who have signed their first-ever recorder player - 16-year-old Lucie Horsch from the Netherlands.

Following in the footsteps of Michala Petri, Marion Verbruggen and others as an ambassador for an often-overlooked instrument, Horsch is keen to challenge the stereotypes that have surrounded the recorder ever since its adoption as a teaching tool in the classroom. She stresses its flexibility and the techniques that allow it a far broader range of expression than one might expect.

Her début album, due out in October, focuses on concertos and arias by Vivaldi - one of the most prolific and popular composers for the recorder.

Lucie plays an extract from Vivaldi's concerto RV443, with Dutch Radio 4's Orkest Ludwig.
