Coming Soon, Philippe Jaroussky sings Verlaine settings

Philippe Jaroussky sings Verlaine settingsWe hear that French countertenor Philippe Jaroussky has just finished recording a sequel to his ground-breaking 2009 disc Opium, which saw him exploring the rich mine of Romantic and twentieth-century French song - repertoire not hitherto associated with the countertenor voice, and a real departure from his usual baroque assignments! Five years on, he's throwing his focus squarely on settings of texts by the French symbolist poet Paul Verlaine (1844-96), who inspired a generation of artists, fellow writers and composers, including his lover Arthur Rimbaud, Boris Pasternak, Gabriel Fauré and Claude Debussy (whose famous Clair de lune is based on Verlaine's poem of the same name).

Taking its title from one of Verlaine's most frequently-set poems, Green will include songs by Debussy, Chausson, Faure and Reynaldo Hahn, with Jerome Ducros, the pianist from Opium, returning to the keyboard.

The earlier disc included cameos from Emmanuel Pahud and the Capuçon brothers, and Green is set to be no less starry - expect guest-appearances from the Quatuor Ebène and contralto Nathalie Stutzmann...Due for release in spring 2015 on Erato.
