The Concerto was created in Paris between 1946 and 1947. Spisak’s interest in Baroque and early Classical works can be observed not only in the nomenclature of the movements, Toccata, Passacaglia and Rondo, but also in the musical narrative, built, as it is, on the principle of contrast. Tonal fragments intertwine with atonal, and the homophonic texture with the polyphonic one, while moments resonant of utter calmness are contrasted with those of rapturous ecstasy.
