A talented performer of standards and show tunes, Monica Lewis had a superb, warm, and moving voice. Over the course of a decade (from 1947 to 1958), she recorded a series of albums that complemented her success in movies, live engagements, and TV shows. Following that, she would take a hiatus from her music career, which she would not fully return to it until thirty years later.
On Fools Rush In, one of the most sought-after LPs by jazz record collectors, Lewis is backed by Jack Kelly's piano and ensemble. Most of the tunes are romantic ballads and Lewis sounds like Dinah Shore here with a dash of Julie London, highlighting her clear contralto voice, as well as her perfect diction and skilled phrasing.
