Hard Bop

Hard Bop

Developing out of bebop, hard bop is a style of jazz that developed around the mid-1950s that incorporated influences from gospel and rhythm & blues. The term was first coined by music journalists to describe the music of artists like Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, and Charles Mingus, and was described as the natural result of jazz musicians who grew up listening to rhythm & blues. The term was sometimes interchangeably used with 'soul jazz' at the time, which later developed into its own unique style.
