Easy Listening
Easy listening (sometimes called 'mood music') is a style of popular music that is mostly instrumental, light-sounding music with slow tempos and soft melodies. The earliest origins of easy listening music stem from jazz vocalists like Frank Sinatra and Dinah Washington employing orchestral strings in their recordings, with the style peaking in popularity between the 1950s and 1970s. There is much diversity within the realm of easy listening however, especially in the exotica style spearheaded by Les Baxter and Martin Denny.
