Deutsche HM

Since it was founded some fifty years ago, the German-based deutsche harmonia mundi (dhm) label has become a leading light in the exploration and recording of rare musical repertoire that extends from the Gregorian chant of the Middle Ages to the dawn of the Romantic era. A vital aspect of the artistic mission of dhm has been to foster the concept of historically accurate performance, in the use of both period instruments and authentic performance practices - an exciting new frontier in music, discovered in the details of the past.

The riches of the dhm catalogue extend from the imaginative explorations of Sequentia - the early music ensemble that has won worldwide acclaim for its luminous recordings of the music of Hildegard von Bingen, as well as a vast array of other Western music that predates polyphony - to a comprehensive selection of vocal and orchestral works from the Baroque and Classical eras, all performed in period style. Other dhm artists include conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt and the Concentus Musicus Wien, Andreas Staier, Andrew Lawrence-King, Thomas Hengelbrock, Hille Perl, Camerata Koln, Gustav Leonhardt, Collegium Aureum and Christoph PrŽgardien.

Long affiliated with BMG Classics, dhm is now a part of the Sony BMG Masterworks family of classical labels.
