Edgar Moreau (Cello)

Nationality: French

French cellist Edgar Moreau was born in Paris in 1994 and started playing the cello at the age of four; he trained at the Conservatoire de Paris, with early successes including prizes at the International Tchaikovsky Competition and the Concours de violoncelle Rostropovich.

He signed with Erato in 2013, making his debut on the label with Play (a collection of encores and transcriptions with pianist Pierre-Yves Hodique); subsequent recordings include the Offenbach and Gulda Cello Concertos with Les Forces Majeures (‘a commanding presence…his virtuosity can be thrilling’ – Gramophone), Giovincello (an album of baroque cello concertos with Il Pomo d’Oro), and sonatas by Franck, Poulenc, Rita Strohl and Fernand de la Tombelle with pianist David Kadouch.
