Ensemble Pygmalion was formed at the Conservatoire de Paris in 2006, by French countertenor and conductor Raphaël Pichon. Their debut recording of Missae Breves by JS Bach was released on Alpha in 2008, and won praise from Gramophone for 'the vitality of the choral movements of both Masses and the richly flavoured instrumental accompaniment'; their discography also includes the Mass in B Minor (‘a Bach project of the highest calibre’ – Gramophone), Rameau’s Dardanus and Castor et Pollux, Enfers (a recital of Rameau, Gluck and Rebel with baritone Stéphane Degout, which won the Recital Category at the 2019 International Opera Awards), and the Gramophone Award-winning Mozart – The Weber Sisters with the coloratura soprano Sabine Devieilhe.
