Coming Soon, Alisa Weilerstein: 'Me, myself and I'…

Alisa Weilerstein: 'Me, myself and I'…When we spoke to Alisa Weilerstein last month about her recent Dvorak recording on Decca Classics, she described her next project for the label as 'Me, myself and I' - a recital of works for unaccompanied cello, centring on Kodály's mighty solo sonata.

Full details of the rest of the programme have just been revealed: alongside the Kodály, we'll get Golijov's Omaramor, Gaspar Cassado's Suite for Solo Cello and Bright Sheng's Seven Tunes Heard In China - quite an eclectic mix! The exact UK release-date is yet to be confirmed, but is likely to be towards the end of the year.

Other recordings from Alisa Weilerstein:

Alisa's recording of the Dvorak Concerto with Jiří Bělohlávek and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra was released in April and was praised by The Telegraph for its 'spine-tingling thrill and generosity of feeling'. You can read Katherine's interview with Alisa here.

This unusual double-bill pairs Elgar's nostalgic masterpiece with Elliott Carter's uncompromising Concerto from 2001 (made in consultation with the composer, shortly before his death in late 2012 aged 104). Daniel Barenboim (recording a female cellist in the Elgar for the first time since his late wife Jacqueline du Pré) presides over the Staatskapelle Berlin.
