Coming Soon, Chailly returns to Brahms

Chailly returns to BrahmsWe hear that Riccardo Chailly is back in the studio in Leipzig this week, recording the two Brahms Serenades with the Gewandhausorchester for release on Decca next November.

Chailly's recordings of the complete symphonies and major orchestral works with the orchestra (released late last year) won widespread critical acclaim, and indeed the orchestral category at the recent BBC Music Magazine Awards; the Sunday Times described them as 'richly stimulating performances' and any regular readers may recall that I enjoyed Chailly's willingness to 'set aside tradition and to come up with something that sounded different'.
