Coming Soon, Paul Lewis's next project…

Paul Lewis's next project…Following his mammoth surveys of Beethoven and Schubert's piano works, we hear that Paul Lewis will be dividing his attention between two composers for his next recording project on Harmonia Mundi: the Liverpool-born pianist will record Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and Schumann's Fantasie Op. 17 for release in spring 2015.

Mr Lewis is no stranger to Schumann, having performed the Fantasie at a range of high-profile events to mark the composer's bicentenary in 2010, and is currently touring with the Mussorgsky: reviewing a recent performance at St George's Bristol, The Guardian observed that 'Lewis conjured new visions for the mind's eye, resonant and ultimately very powerful', whilst The New York Times praised the 'myriad distinctive touches and nuances' of his interpretation at Carnegie Hall. He's stated in interviews that Russian Romantic repertoire was his first love as a very young pianist (he initially planned to pursue postgraduate studies in Moscow, before his career-changing encounter with his mentor Alfred Brendel), so it will doubtless be fascinating to hear his mature thoughts on Mussorgsky.
