The Luther Madrigals by Bernd Franke were commissioned by Hermann Max and the Alte Musik Festival in Knechtsteden near Cologne in 2015. The premiere took place in September 2015 by the King`s Singers.
Franke has composed a collage of texts by Martin Luther and Zeitzeuge, Which particularly emphasize his ironic and snappy-humorous vein. The lyrics are taken from a section of How you like it from Shakespeare, the famous All the world`s a stage.
The seven movements are characterized by great color in the treatment of the voices, they are sung, whispered, spoken, acted and discussed. At the end of the epilogue, the space is also included by a scenic expansion of the composition Middle-German space, and, through the setting of the texts by Luther, tried to make this famous figure of German history a living and experienceable experience.
