The late-romantic epoch in the 19th century was the second "golden age" for the flute. Since most of the works from this period have been out of print for a long time, I am convinced that the present edition can close a gap that many felt painful. Franz Albert Doppler was one of the most important flute virtuosos of his time. His compositional work is strongly influenced by his stay in Hungary - it can often be traced back to the Hungarian gypsy tunes. Doppler was born in Lemberg in 1821 and came to Budapest with his family in 1830. He was initially a flutist at the Deutsches Theater and later at the Nationaltheater. In 1858 he moved to Vienna, where he worked as first flutist and ballet conductor at the Court Opera. From 1865 he held a professorship at the Music Academy. He undertook extensive concert tours with his brother Karl Doppler (1825-1900), who was also an excellent flautist and with whom he often performed the works he composed together. Franz Doppler died in Baden near Vienna in 1883. This edition is based on a copy published by Schott in Mainz. Obvious errors have been corrected, dynamic information and phrasing marks have been added. The work is dedicated to A. S. Negovetich. András Adorján, Stockholm, 1970
