For this famous violoncello concert, there were a few choices: editions were based either on the first print not authorized in detail by Dvorák or on the autograph, like the complete Dvorák edition (1955), which in many cases does not represent the final version. In this particular text, Klaus Döge re-evaluates the traditional sources. The result is an edition that critically examines the many, often contradictory readings between the autograph and the first edition, and thus benefits the practice. In most cases, Döge prefers first-time printing without flattening out Dvorak's special notation, as his publisher Simrock did at the time. Döge’s edition also shows that the score is not as secure as previous editions suggest. In some places - especially in the solo part - the variants are sometimes noted on a second system. The piano reduction created by the composer himself will be edited for the first time in a text-critical manner. Heinrich Schiff provided Döge with artistic assistance. Schiff has set up the solo part and gives practical interpretations with playful commentaries.
