Prélude pour Orgue was written for the reopening of Notre-Dame of Paris. World Premiere by Olivier Latry, January 7, 2025. Like the composer's previous Mad Rush, this prelude is a work of indeterminate duration. The performer is encouraged to improvise repeat structures and registrations to create an arc that suits the occasion.

On November 22, 1928, Ida Rubinstein’s ballet to the music of Maurice Ravel’s Boléro premiered at the Opéra Garnier in Paris: it was a resounding success. An orchestral version of the Boléro was soon available, and leading orchestras from across the globe soon made it part of their repertoire. Now, all that remained was to enable smaller-scale performances, to introduce the work into the homes of passionate pianists.

In 1909 Jules Écorcheville suggested to several French composers that they should write a piece based on the name of Haydn. It was on this occasion that Maurice Ravel composed the Menuet sur le nom de Haydn . Écorcheville’s initiative follows the tradition of the musical tombeau, a piece dedicated to the memory of a musician friend who has died. Particularly cultivated in the Baroque period, it re-emerged with renewed vigour in the early twentieth century.

Songs by German-Jewish composers and lyricists were collected in the 1912 German-Jewish Songbook. As part of an arrangement competition announced by the German Choral Association, primarily German and Israeli composers were invited to create contemporary arrangements of these songs for various choral ensembles. The pieces each last approximately 3-6 minutes and are based either on a German or a Hebrew song, or a fusion of the two.

Orchestral
