The Magnificat RV 160 has come down to us in two versions. The first version is dominated by the choral concept. In the second version the texts of Et exultavit, Quia respexit, Quia fecit, Esurientes, and Sicut locutus est are each given new and extended solo arias that – as the manuscripts reveal – were tailored to voices of girls from the Ospedale orphanage in Venice.

The rediscovery of the original manuscripts of Max Reger’s works for violin, viola and violoncello op. 131a–d in the Prague Conservatory Library represents a small sensation. These late works for solo strings, the last of which only appeared posthumously, were previously only known from their first prints. The Preludes and Fugues op. 131a for violin were written in the spring of 1914 during Reger’s convalescent stay in Merano.

Elijah is regarded as a milestone in Mendelssohn’s compositional output and as a high point in the oratorio literature of the 19th century. Mendelssohn composed his second great oratorio just a year before his premature death. This excitingly dramatic work also expresses a fervent belief in God, a belief which in the 19th century was no longer self-evident.
