Gareth Malone's Great British Home Chorus Songbook
Gareth Malone is a TV choral conductor, perhaps best known for presenting the acclaimed BBC series The Choir. Earlier this year he annouced a new initiative to bring together both amateur and professional performers around the country as we are all experiencing day to day 'social distancing'. The Great British Home Chorus aims to give everyone the opportunity to contribute their voices and instruments to an ambitious digital music project, conceived in the light of many closures of communal rehearsal spaces nationwide. Nearly 20,000 people tuned in live for the first online session on YouTube, which included warm-ups and a performance of 'You are my sunshine'. The video has since attracted nearly 350,000 total views. The inspiration behind BBC2's new show The Choir: Singing for Britain, Gareth Malone's Great British Home Chorus has unified the nation through virtual singing.
