In late 1821 Beethoven began work on his final piano sonata op. 111 which has been considered a towering masterwork ever since its publication. Jonathan Del Mar has re-examined the convoluted source material, including the proof sheets and errata lists that accompanied its publication. Supplementing the meticulously edited text is a detailed Critical Commentary, an informative introduction and valuable notes on performance practice.

Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old, the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements, which – with their polyphonic structure – are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century.

Suite for Orchestra (Full Score)

Fauré wrote Pelléas et Mélisande in 1898 originally as incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck’s like-named play. Bärenreiter’s scholarly-critical edition of the four-movement orchestral suite Pelléas et Mélisande op. 80 is based on Gabriel Fauré The Complete Works, Volume IV/2 which appeared in 2016. Orchestra Score

1st Sonata, written by Darius Milhaud, is based on anonymous tunes of the eighteenth century and dedicated to Germain Prevost. Italian composer, Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) is well-known for his keyboard compositions. His 555 Keyboard Sonatas remain ever popular to this day. Ma mere l'oye (Mother Goose Suite) is typical of Ravel's style with its modal melodies, use of dance forms and rhythmic precision.
