Commissioned by Chamberosity, Eric Ewazen’s Trio for Horn, Violin, and Piano pays homage to Brahms’ work for the same instruments. Ewazen’s four movements are modelled after the Brahms, with a slow-fast-slow-fast scheme. A mysterious first movement accumulates depth and momentum, then returns to the gentle world of the opening. The second movement is a rip-roaring scherzo, with melodies tossed between the violin and horn. The melancholy third movement features long lyric melodies, and the final movement, following an austere introduction, turns into a grand fugue, full of life and excitement. For advanced performers.

This new collection celebrates the beauty of new life and parenthood with familiar tunes and new discoveries by composers such as Brahms, Ravel, Faure, and Gershwin. An Orchestrator's Handbook

Henry Brant's new guide to orchestration is, in fact, the result of his lifelong work as a conductor, composer, and teacher. In observation of other orchestration texts throughout his life, Brant realized that many were incomplete, in that they gave instructions based on "hoped-for evocations of mystic visions" rather than the actual, practical qualities of instruments. Textures and Timbres: An Orchestrator's Handbook is an absolutely vital tool for composers and conductors.
