This live recording from 1990 features the Canadian pianist Oliver Jones in a wide-ranging programme - some standards, a few originals, some ballads and blues. The trio is completed with two leading American jazzmen, the in-demand bassist Reggie Johnson and the creative and observant drummer, Ed Thigpen. The Kurtheater in Baden Switzerland, a lovely intimate venue, has been the location for a series oj jazz concerts that goes back to 1964. On this occasion the event was 'Piano Night,' and Montreal's Oliver Jones was making his Baden debut. Ranked by many alongside his fellow-Canadian Oscar Peterson, Jones is a fully mature talent, in command of his instrument and the history of jazz.
