Garys' recent projects include the Day-glo dance grooves of Wild Rumpus (with DJ Cosmo) and playing live soundtracks to silent horror movies. Here he concentrates on songwriting, demonstrating his love of pop, blues and psychedelia. Gods and Monsters boast the formidable rhythm section of drummer Billy Ficca (ex-Television) and Ernie Brooks on bass (ex-Modern Lovers), and although Lucas' fret work is dazzling, all play in service of the songs. Lucas has written for singers like Jeff Buckley and Joan Osborne. Proceedings peak on the garage rock of a paradoxically joyous Depression and Jedwabne, a moving and stately lament for Jews killed in the Nazi pogroms.
