Eric Legnini : Piano Thomas Bramerie : Bass Hugo Lippi : Guitar Rocky Gresset : Guitar. On his previous album "Waxx Up" (2017) Eric Legnini hit the fusion arc from jazz, soul and funk to Pop, Elektronica, Hip Hop and R'n'B with a large cast and numerous guest vocalists. "Six String Under " however is in a modest quartet setting, dedicated entirely to the possibilities of the guitar. Not only because standards such as the '30s classic "Stomping At The Savoy" are a real pleasure for bassist Thomas Bramerie and guitarist Hugo Lippi, or because the second guitarist Rocky Gresset moves so elegantly in the Gypsy style. As far as the guitars are concerned, even more is possible: the opener "Boda Boda" quotes Fela-eske Afrobeat, and on "Daydreaming" Radiohead's pop guitars are playing. "La Mangueira" is bossa in the spirit of Jobim, and David Bowie's "Space Oddity" is the perfect template for a homage to British rock guitars. And of course Legnini's unique piano playing is omnipresent on all eleven tracks. The Belgian pianist Eric Legnini has been one of the most accomplished exponents of contemporary European jazz for more than two decades. He started his career as a classical musician living in Paris. At an early age he in of saxophonist Jaques Pelzer's band, followed by collaborations with ?ric Le Lann, Aldo Romano, Branford Marsalis, Toots Thielemans and Philip Catherine. In addition, the busy and award-winning keyboard virtuoso (Django d'Or, Les Victoires du Jazz) still maintains his own trio, quartet and quintet line-ups.
