This week we begin with Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen's new album, featuring solo and duet recordings with a diverse range of collaborators, and also delve into the world of guitarist Oz Noy on his debut for Criss Cross, here highlighting his acoustic side. The experimental duo of Julie Tippetts and Kevin Figes delivers captivating explorations, blending mesmerising vocals with atmospheric instrumentation; the trio of Lars Danielsson, John Parricelli, and Verneri Pohjola serve up a contemplative rumination on the ACT label, and bassist Or Bareket's new album Yom showcases his lyrical and rhythmic prowess, offering a dynamic and introspective response to the post-Covid world.

We always like to include some left-field choices, so this time we have Kuljit Bhamra and Becky Price presenting a joyful fusion of Bhangra and Ceilidh traditions, and finally, we celebrate the visionary Scottish Canadian animator Norman McLaren with a groundbreaking release of his electronic soundtracks recorded between the 1940s to 1970s, showcasing his innovative compositions and boundless imagination.

Norwegian drummer Thomas Strønen's new album features solo and duet recordings with diverse collaborators like Craig Taborn and Chris Potter. Spanning genres from folk to modern jazz, the music blends disparate elements into a cohesive whole, recorded in various locations and mixed in Munich.

Oz Noy

Guitarist Oz Noy, known for his electric jazz-fusion style, surprises with his debut on Criss Cross.
