The latest picks for our jazz release round-up include a new recording by the Julia Hülsmann Quartet on ECM and trombonist Dave Sear's debut on Ubutnu Music, as well as a live bootleg collection of early-'80s Miles Davis and a recording of Roland Kirk at Ronnie Scott's in 1963.
Julia Hülsmann follows up her 2019 record Not Far From Here with the very same quartet on The Next Door, a collection of largely original compositions inspired equally by '60s modal jazz and contemporary styles.

Originally recorded in 1990, this is a solo recording by French pianist Michel Petrucciani - considered one of the finest of his generation despite suffering from a genetic disease - reissued by Storyville Records. Petrucciani can be heard here playing not only original compositions but also works by Thelonious Monk and Duke Ellington, capping the set off with a thirteen-minute medley.
