This new Ella Fitzgerald album features a previously unreleased concert from 1958, with a 15-song performance of songs by Irving Berlin; it was the only time she performed these full orchestral arrangements with conductor Paul Weston, who also worked with Ella on the studio recording of these same songs which would win her a Grammy Award for Album of the Year.

Monk (son of Thelonious) with his sextet, Two Continents One Groove features performances taken from Harlem's Jazz Shrines Festival and Marian's Jazzroom in Bern, Switzerland, featuring seven tunes (including one original) in which Monk's swing and R&B-influenced style truly excels.

Pakistani-born, Brooklyn-based vocalist and composer Arooj Aftab's Grammy Award-winning third album Vulture Prince - which draws from jazz, Hindustani classical, and folk music as a vessel for exploring personal grief - enjoys a deluxe re-release from Verve Records this week.

Florian Hoefner Trio

German-Canadian pianist Florian Hoefner follows up his Juno-nominated album First Spring with Desert Bloom, featuring new compositions inspired by the phenomenon of desert flowers, which grow underground for a period of years before blossoming dramatically together - a process Hoefner likens to the experience of being a musician during the pandemic.
