The latest new and upcoming vinyl releases for March and April 2022 include a handful of Blue Note classic reissues - including Cassandra Wilson, Hank Mobley, and John Coltrane - as well as recent releases like the Chick Corea Akoustic Band's Live album, Marquis Hill's New Gospel Revisited, and the Recording of the Week-featured 12 Stars by Melissa Aldana.

Classic Reissues

Hank Mobley

Part of Blue Note's Tone Poet series of audiophile-quality reissues, this Mobley classic has the somewhat underrated saxophonist playing a set of four originals and two standards, accompanied by Kenny Dorham on trumpet, Sonny Clark on piano, Jimmy Rowser on bass, and Art Taylor on drums.

Available Format: Vinyl Record

Milt Jackson & Thelonious Monk

Another all-analog remastering from the Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition series, this Milt Jackson and Thelonious Monk collaboration is also known as Milt Jackson: Wizard of the Vibes, this edition was later expanded to include 1948 and '51 live recordings of Jackson playing in Monk's band.

Geri Allen Trio

Geri Allen's third album for Blue Note, originally recorded in 1994, is also part of their Classic Vinyl Edition series, and sees her play alongside bassist Ron Carter and drummer Tony Williams.

New Releases

Chick Corea Akoustic Band

Originally released at the tail-end of last year, this double-live album from the late Chick Corea features a set recorded back in January 2018, comprising over 2 hours of both originals and standards.

Available Format: 3 Vinyl Records

Robben Ford & The Blue Line

This one isn't a strictly new release per se, but is being issued by Repertoire Records for the first time on double vinyl. Featuring the versatile blues-jazz guitarist at a time when his solo career was just beginning, this is some of Ford's earliest recorded material spanning blues, jazz, rock, and improv.

Available Format: 2 Vinyl Records

Roswell Rudd & Duck Baker

A release from earlier in the year, this collaboration between jazz trombonist Roswell Rudd and guitarist Duck Baker was originally recorded in two parts almost twenty years ago, released for the first time on Dot Time Records.

Available Format: Vinyl Record

Gerald Clayton

Pianist Gerald Clayton returns to Blue Note for his second outing with the label, featuring contributions from Charles Lloyd on saxophone - a mentor to Clayton - his father John Clayton on bass, longtime collaborator Justin Brown on drums, and MARO on vocals.

Available Formats: Vinyl Record, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Marquis Hill

Releasing on vinyl next month, New Gospel Revisited sees American trumpeter/composer revisiting the material from his 2012 debut New Gospel, reimagining the album with a roster of all-star American jazzmen that includes Walter Smith III, Joel Ross, James Francies, Kendrick Scott and Harish Raghavan.

Available Format: 2 Vinyl Records

Melissa Aldana

One of our favourites of the year so far, Chilean saxophonist Melissa Aldana's Blue Note debut 12 Stars, releases later this month on vinyl. Melissa's latest album sees her exploring themes of family, self-love and acceptance, and features contributions from close collaborator and guitarist Lage Lund.
