Jazzwise Albums of the Year 2020
Comparing lists is part and parcel with being into most things - sport, trainspotting, and of course, music. So a week after we revealed the Presto Music Awards, with five for jazz, it's time to have a good old rummage in the Jazzwise albums of the year lists, and spot things that we left out, and wonder why others weren't on theirs. So hurrah for Nubya Garcia, who is the one common factor, but I'm scratching my head wondering why Tony Kofi didn't make theirs, at the same time as worrying that just maybe Chick Corea, Rudresh Mahanthappa, Carla Bley and Django Bates should have been on ours. Thelonious Monk's redisoveredPalo Alto school hall concert is on their reissues list though! It's all grist for the mill though isn't it, and as you would expect from such an august journal, the Jazzwise picks are a catholic bunch.
