New Release Round-up, Jazz New Release Round-Up - 19th July 2019

NRS Hello jazz lovers. It's another quiet release week, so I've decided to focus on some of the vinyl reissues that are coming out, mostly from Blue Note, a label that continues to dig deep in the archive and shine a light on some lesser known gems. Personal highlights are Bobby Humphrey's lush Black and Blues and Roy Haynes's Out of the Afternoon.

Bobbi Humphrey was one of the finest jazz flautists of the seventies, and Black and Blues was her defining album. A sumptuous funk / fusion classic, with most of the music written by brothers Larry and Fonce Mizell, the duo behind many of Donald Byrd’s funkiest records. If you enjoy the lightness of Return to Forever or Lonnie Liston Smith do yourself a favour and try. This yielded two great tunes, Jasper Country Man and Harlem River Drive.
