New Release Round-up, Jazz New Release Round-Up - 12th April 2019

A fairly light week for jazz new releases, but two heavy-weights make up in quality what is lacking in quantity, with albums from Herlin Riley, Bill Frisell and Thomas Morgan alongside Nina Simone on vinyl.

Bill Frisell & Thomas Morgan

A future Recording of the Week, this sounds knockout from the few tracks I have heard so far. Like their acclaimed ECM release Small Town of 2017 - which The Guardian called “wistful and mesmerizing... tonally ingenious and haunting” - Epistrophy by guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan was recorded at New York City’s Village Vanguard.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC, Hi-Res FLAC

Kohashi-Overwater-Verploegen Trio

Very relaxed, yet exploratory improvisations from the Kohashi-Overwater-Verploegen trio - is a collective jazz group that creates a unique sound, standing on an equal footing with each other.

Available Formats: CD, MP3, FLAC

Herlin Riley

This joyful new recording from Herlin Riley and his band is our Recording of the Week - read the full review here to find out why.

Michael Kocour

Michael Kocour interpets the Great American Songbook with his innate flair for melodic creativity, harmonic acuity, swinging rhythmic gait, supple technique, and an elegant touch.
