Illuminations is delighted to announce the release of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake on DVD and Blu-ray on 14 th July 2020. Following sell-out UK performances, the DVD and Blu-ray comes soon after the release of our download and streaming versions in May 2020.
Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake is a thrilling, audacious, witty and emotive. The show is best known for replacing the female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, which shattered conventions, turned tradition upside down and took the dance world by storm.
After causing an immediate sensation when it premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 1995, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake returns with a fresh look for the 21st century. Still retaining the iconic elements of the original production loved by millions around the world, award-winning designers, Lez Brotherston and Paule Constable, alongside Bourne, have created an exciting re-imagining of the classic production. Matthew Bourne’s powerful interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece is a passionate and contemporary Swan Lake for our times.
In this performance Liam Mower dances the part of The Prince, Nicole Kabera performs as The Queen, with Will Bozier portraying the iconic role of The Swan and The Stranger. The DVD and Blu-ray include the new exclusive film, The Making of Swan Lake, featuring behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with present cast members, Will Bozier and Liam Mower; original Swan/Stranger from 1995, Adam Cooper; Associate Artistic Director, Etta Murfitt; and Matthew Bourne himself.
