About

A brilliant conclusion to the first Heinrich Schutz complete recording: With the “Psalmen & Friedensmusiken” (Psalms & Music for Peace), Hans-Christoph Rademann and the Dresdner Kammerchor bring this groundbreaking project to a magnificent close.

This 2CD set features mostly unknown, but particularly sumptuous and mostly multi-choral works, which Schutz wrote between 1618 and 1648 for important political occasions or thanksgiving celebrations.

Groups of soloists and choristers create a colourful sound experience in interplay with strings, trombones, cornetts and viols. A truly worthy conclusion to this award-winning series. This groundbreaking series has attracted many critical accolades and this recording again features the Dresden Chamber Choir, Soloists and Hans-Christoph Rademann.

October 2019

Volume 20 comprises nine psalm settings in addition to ten miscellaneous vocal works, all of which sustain the high musical standards of previous volumes. It makes a fitting conclusion to the entire series and this comprehensive survey of 17th-century Germany’s most significant composer.

January/February 2020

arguably the finest in the entire series issued by Carus...an indispensible, immediately necessary acquisition for every lover of Schütz’s music.

September 2019

Rademann’s forces bring all the warmth and soft, grainy bloom we’ve come to expect through this series to the larger-scale works, as well as a rhythmic and expressive lightness that helps give clarity right through some very dense vertical textures…It’s a splendid end to Rademann’s labour of love, and those final personal works offer a lovely parting glimpse of the private man behind so much public spectacle.
