The Well Tempered Klavier by Johann Sebastian Bach has to be one of the highest points in the history of western music. Book 1 was printed in 1722, Book 2 in 1744.
On this two disc Arta set, Lithuanian harpsichordist, Giedre Luksaite- Mrazkova plays on a 1995 copy of a Ruckerse that dates from around 1640. She finds inspiration in the writing of Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965). For her "the first and most important step in the interpretation of the 24 Preludes and Fugues was awareness of Bach's extraordinary relationship with music and with the arts in general."
Listeners may well think upon that, while at 155 minutes for Book 2, they will have ample time!
