About

After a first album as part of the harmonia nova collection, which resulted in a well-deserved Victoire de la Musique Classique (category New Instrumental Soloist), Bruno Philippe continues his path on the harmonia mundi label.

This programme devoted to Rachmaninoff and the unfairly neglected Myaskovsky is a genuine technical and artistic challenge, which the young cellist has taken up in total harmony with his long term musical partner Jérôme Ducros.

Be swept away by the swirling passions of these works, among the most romantic in Russian musical literature.

Awards and reviews

May 2019

'It’s difficult to understand why Nikolai Myaskovsky’s First Cello Sonata remains so neglected…Philippe inflects the music with great fervour, strongly supported by Jérôme Ducros’s impressive mastery of the demanding piano part and an admirably balanced recording. Philippe Ducros are just as compelling in the much better-known Rachmaninov Sonata…All in all, an outstanding release.

March 2019

Philippe is still only 25 but you wouldn’t guess from the maturity of his musical thinking, which is coupled with a songfulness and ravishing sound – essential qualities for Rachmaninov...How refreshing to have this sonata coupled with Myaskovsky’s First Cello Sonata, a rarity in the studio...Throughout, Philippe and Ducros play with absolute conviction and make the strongest possible case for the piece.
